Activity during recovery from Heart Surgery

Q: When can I drive after my heart surgey?
A: Generally after heart surgery, provided you have not had any unusual complications, driving can be resummed when you feel you can operate a motor vehicle safely. That would mean you can comfortably and without hesitation operate all the controls for your vehicle without being under the influence of prescription pain medications. For most of our patients, it is genearlly after about three weeks from discharge from the hospital. We would advise that you start with short trips at low traffic times to build your confidence. Please remember if you have any concerns we reccomend you contact the State Department of Motor Vehicles, as they are the final authourity regarding safety on our roadways. Drive safely and wear a seatbelt!
