Should swelling of the wound occur or should your voice change, sitting in an upright position may be more comfortable. Both swelling and voice change should resolve relatively quickly.
Some patients have a slight numbness of the ear lobe or the area underneath the chin or jaw. This usually goes away completely but sometimes leaves a small area of numbness under the chin, especially if the procedure was performed on both sides of the neck.
Pain medication will be prescribed, but you will not need it frequently since this procedure is fairly easy on your body.
Unless otherwise not tolerated all patients need to take a low dose aspirin daily. The coated varieties, while a little more expensive may be better tolerated by your stomach.
