Pulmonary Resection
This procedure is performed by making the incision into your chest to access the lung area. You may have one larger incision or several small incisions if you have video-assisted thoracic surgery. The incision may ache for several weeks, but it will not disable you.
In areas where there are tube drains, a large amount of fluid, which may contain blood, may drain. Blot any drainage with a towel instead of changing the gauze each time, as this could cause skin irritation. Should skin irritation occur, a mild cortisone ointment or cream should be used for relief.
When drainage decreases, a dressing can be applied to protect your clothing.
